On this day – April 27

On this day in 1773, the British Parliament passes the Tea Act, a bill designed to save the faltering East India Company from bankruptcy by greatly lowering the tea tax it paid to the British government and, thus, granting it a de facto monopoly on the American tea trade; in 1943, the movie “Roy Rogers in Idaho” played at the Theater; in 1946, Barney Villa was appointed police chief; in 1971, the State announced monument closing; in 2001 students from the Adirondack School clean up trash and debris from the Old Champlain Canal from lock 5 to the Philip Schuyler House; and in 2002, several volunteers assisted in the planting of 300 arbor vita trees around the perimeter of the Wastewater Treatment facility.
