On this day in 1747, French troops, militia and natives under the command of St.-Luc forged Fish Creek “a half aleague above” the fort (on plains along the Hudson River south of the Schuyler House), this war party watched and waited but saw no movement within or outsideof the fort so St.-Luc sent a scouting party south along the road to Albany, which returned fearing they had been detected; in 1767, the British Parliament passes the Townshend Revenue Act; colonists to pay extra import duties for salaries of colonial governors and judges; in 1782, General Washington viewed the Saratoga Battlefield; in 1862, the 77th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment participated the Battle of Savage’s Station as the main body of the Union Army of the Potomac began a general withdrawal toward the James River; in 1919, local resident George T. Middlebrook was born, and he would serve in World War 2 as a Machinist Mate II in the US Navy; in 1926, Schuylerville’s Kathlyn “Kay” (Russom) Bussing was born in Round Lake, following World War II, Kay married Raymond G. Bussing on July 4, 1944 in Mechanicville, and together they raised their family until his passing on June 8, 1984, Kay was proud to be a member of the Friends of Schuylerville Library for many years, she liked playing Bingo and trips to the ocean, where she could go camping with her family, most of all, Kay enjoyed entertaining her family in her home and spending time with all her grandchildren, she passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at 93 years; in 1992, Walter Wood Sr. of Saratoga passed away, he served as a private in the US Army in Korea, in 2014, Julia P. Hanehan, 85, passed away, born on March 13, 1929 in Troy, she was the daughter of the Katherine (Carroll) Ryan and Frank J. Ryan, she worked for the NY Telephone Co. before her marriage, and then she moved to the family farm in Saratoga, she was a member of the Saratoga Grange and the Saratoga County Farm Bureau where she had served as treasurer for a few years, she later returned to work for the State Department of Labor, the State Department of Commerce, and retired from Wilton Development Center in Wilton, she was a charter member of the Quaker Springs Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary and in 2018, town of Saratoga resident Dennis Jones, 64, pleaded guilty Friday to a felony drug charge, Jones was identified last year by law enforcement as a major cocaine distributer in and around Saratoga County, he was arrested for possession of approximately three pounds of cocaine and 26 pounds of marijuana at his home on Route 32, more than $250,000 in cash and illegal proceeds were seized from his property in conjunction with his arrest, as well as long guns and other drug paraphernalia.
