On this day in 1685, the Governor Dongan granted the petition of Pieter Schuyler, Robert Livingston, and others to purchase a tract of land on the upper Hudson from the Mohawk Indians; in 1783, t he Continental Congress ratified preliminary articles of peace ending the War of Independence with Great Britain; in 1817 New York State Legislature finally approved construction of the Erie Canal; and in 2006 there was a Schuyler’s Easter egg hunt & roll at Fort Hardy park.
