On this day in 1775, British General John Burgoyne writes British Maj. General Thomas Gage’s manifesto to the rebels outside Boston; in 1776, in Boston, American General Benjamin Lincoln (who would later serve at the Battles of Saratoga) directs the placement of cannon (many of which travelled from Fort Ticonderoga and Crown Point through Saratoga) around Boston harbor, a short cannonade convinces the British ships to weigh anchor, inspiring Lincoln to write “thus is the port of Boston again opened by our own authority, after being closed during two years by virtue of an act of the British Parliament,” and American General Benedict Arnold writes to Ameican Gen Sullivan, “The junction of the Canadas with the colonies is now at an end. Let us quit them, and secure our own country before it is too late;” in 1777, Brunswick General Baron Riedesel was in St. John, Quebec and wrote to his wife, “Today, or early tomorrow morning, I set out for Crown Point. You shall hear from me as often as I can snatch a moment for writing. Farewell! Hug our three dear children right heartily for me. I hope your money has not given out; at Quebec, you can obtain on my credit as much as you may wish; and at Three Rivers, you will find the paymaster of our army, Godecke, who will give you as much money as you may need. Once more, my love, farewell! God escorts us as he has done hitherto. Write me soon, and rest assured that I shall remain wholly your own for all time;” in 1942, the USS Saratoga sailed to Pearl Harbor; in 1982, Nathan Patrick Brown, was born in Glens Falls, he in the 2nd Battalion, 108th Infantry, 1st Armored Division, Army National Guard, Glens Falls, N.Y.; killed 11 April 2004when his patrol was ambushed in Samarra, Iraq, Nathan enjoyed paint ball, computers, he played and enjoyed his base guitar and music, video games, he liked fantasy novels, being with his family and friends and the National Guard, Nathan was always a history enthusiast, he had many friends in the Saratoga and Schuylerville area, when he was brought to the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, the community and fire trucks lined the street of Schuylerville; in 2001, the Schuylerville Village Board approved a resolution to increase the number of trustees from two to four; in 2002, the School Board recognized agriculture teacher George Peters, the Future Farmers of America advisor, and chapter officers for their efforts in sponsoring the state FFA convention this spring; in 2008, Schuylerville juniors Dan Ladd and Shane Wagner both earned third-place finishes at the New York State Track and Field Championships at the University at Buffalo and in 2018, the Schuylerville Mayor appointed Robert Petralia, Gilman Albert and Robert Foster to be on the committee to select the vendor for the Main Street Grant and the village purchased a Cub Cadet Mower in the amount of $7,864.
