On this day in 1691, Pieter Schuyler fought and won two battles in one day in Quebec, in 1777, British General Burgoyne finally reached Fort Edward and was focused on his serious supply problems required him to halt the advance down the Hudson River to address shortage; in 1843, at mid-afternoon, the USS Saratoga reached Monrovia, Liberia, to begin operations along the coast of west Africa protecting American citizens and commerce and suppressing the slave trade; in 1877, Saratoga Monument Association meeting held in the parlors of the United States Hotel, at Saratoga Springs, it was resolved to invite the Grand Lodge of the state of New York to lay the cornerstone of the monument; in 1972, Dr. Ben Wallace began as District Principal; in 2002, the 225th Victory at Saratoga Visitors Information center and Exhibition Hall is opened at Olympian Hall; and in 2004. Bill Carey is named Grand Marshall of the Turning Point Parade
