On this day in 1683, Mohawk Sachems sold their old hunting grounds called Sarachtogie to Cornelis Van Dyk, Jan Bleecker, Peter Schuyler, and Johannes Wendel; in 1727, Horatio Lloyd Gates was born, Gates was the American General who earned the American victory in the Battles of Saratoga (1777); in 1842, the third ship named the USS Saratoga, a sloop of war was launched; and in 2001 the Schuylerville Garden Club conducted their annual Flower show at the American Legion with the theme was “Color Your World.”
