On this day

On this day in 1864, the Union and Confederate armies launch their last attacks against each other at Spotsylvania, Virginia, during this series of battles, the 77th New York with a company from Schuylerville lost 3 officers and 27 men killed or mortally wounded; in 1877, the 3rd US Navy ship named Saratoga (a sloop of war) had her final recommissioning to start more than eleven years as a school ship training naval apprentices; in 1889, the first baptism took place at the Notre Dame Church; and in 1998, the $17.6 million school budget passed.
