On this day

On this day in 1917, Congress passes the Selective Service act, calling up soldiers to fight World War I; in 1972, the USS Saratoga departed Naval Station Mayport en route to Subic Bay, Philippines, and her first deployment to the western Pacific ultimately heading to Vietnam and in 2003, Ambassador & Mrs. John Wood of New Zealand visited Battlefield.
