On this day

On this day in 1743, Thomas Jefferson, founding father and third President of the United States (1801-09) was born and he visited Saratoga on 28 May 1791; in 1747, the “Third Battle of Saratoga” near Fort Clinton included with withering volleys of muskets with the English losing 9 men and the French and allies losing 12 men with 3 captured; in 1776, Samuel Chase, a founding father from Maryland, who would later become an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court, stayed at Schuyler House (from April 9 – 16) as part of a diplomatic mission to Canada and George Washington arrives in New York with Horatio Gates; and in 1977, Schuyler Farms Dairy Bar opened for 22nd season.
