On this day

On this day in 1789, the First U.S. Congress begins regular sessions at Federal Hall in New York City with Philip Schuyler a member of the Senate although he did not take his seat to July 27; in 1898, there was a maple sugar social at Baptist Church in Schuylerville and in 1917, the United States formally declared war against Germany and entered the conflict in Europe.
