World War 2 talk tonight in Schuylerville

WASP Pilot Virginia “Ginger” Sweet from Quaker Springs will be one of the focuses of a talk by Sean Kelleher, the Town of Saratoga Historian, on four Saratoga World War II veterans and contractors tonight, March 23, at 7:30 pm at the meeting of the Old Saratoga Historical Association held the Town of Saratoga Town Hall in Schuylerville.

Austin, Texas’s NPR radio station just highlighted the WASP program as of the Texas Women’s History Month program on  Women Airforce Service Pilots because all the pilots including Sweet were trained in Texas.  The link to the radio segment is here

The talk will include John “Lefty” Milligan (former major league pitcher and flight instructor), Lawrence Ruff (decorated naval officer serving in the Pacific), and Arthur Traver (glidertrooper in Europe).”

Saratoga has long been defined by the people who by choice or by chance make up this community. There are many individuals during World War II who helped define this country, our region, and this community. It is the determination of our forefathers, in surmounting overwhelming odds that helped define the American spirit. Historian Sean Kelleher will focus on a few individuals from the Saratoga community that changed this country and even the world.

All meetings are open to the public, free of charge. For more information call 698-3211.
