On this day, in 1751, James Madison, fourth President of the United States (1809-17). was born, he visited Saratoga on May 21 1791; in 1893, boys warned to be careful coasting on Saratoga Street in Schuylerville; in 1916, General John Pershing and his 15,000 troops chase Pancho Villa into Mexico; in 1965, addressing a joint session of Congress, President Johnson called for new legislation to guarantee every American’s right to vote; in 1966, a Republicans slate of officers were elected in villages; in 1982, LePage Pharmacy opened; and in 2011, voters defeated referendum to dissolve villages.
