On this day

On this day in 1776, Franklin named commissioner to Canada; it was in this role that he visited Saratoga on April 9 through 16, 1776; in 1893, there was horse racing on Hudson River ice; in 1930, Schuylerville High School basketball won title of Northeastern NY by beating Glens Falls; in 1941, President Roosevelt signed into law the Lend-Lease Bill, providing war supplies to countries fighting the Axis; in 2001, Rick Sullivan, the Town Animal Control Officer submits his resignation effective May 1 and in 2005, the Schuylerville Community Theater staged their 25th musical, Crazy For You, which was billed as a Gershwin Musical Comedy.
