100 years ago today Woman’s Christian Temperance Union meet in our community


#onthisdate and at this time there was a “WCTU meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Albert Meader on Friday afternoon.” Reported by the Saratogian 10 February 1917

The Woman’s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) is an active temperanceorganization that was among the first organizations of women devoted to social reform with a program that “linked the religious and the secular through concerted and far-reaching reform strategies based on applied Christianity.” It was influential in the temperance movement, and supported the 18th Amendment.
