In keeping with a long local tradition, the Village of Schuylerville and the Town of Saratoga will again commemorate Surrender Day on Monday, October 17 at 10:00 a.m. This public event will be held at the Hudson River stage in Fort Hardy Park. This is the historical ground where the British forces surrendered and laid down their arms on October 17, 1777, bringing to an end the Battles of Saratoga. The 45 minute event will feature British and American re-enactors, cannon salutes, musical entertainment, and “13 Toasts” to the Victory at Saratoga. The celebration will be attended by students from Schuylerville and Salem schools, who will present essays about the “turning point” of the American Revolution. Amy Bracewell, Superintendent of the Saratoga National Historical Park, will bring the keynote address. In the event of severe weather, this outdoor event will be cancelled.
