1790 slavery

Radical Cartography has created a remarkable interactive map of slavery in the north on a town-by-town basis, based on the 1790 census. Note that there were no reports of enslaved people in Massachusetts in that year’s census, 7 years after a series of court decisions effectively ended legal slavery here.
